The first piano nobile of the Palazzo Franchetti is used for temporary exhibitions. The restoration retained the original design of the rooms by using Rubelli fireproof silk that recalls the hangings of early noble Venetian homes. Each room is lit by Murano chandeliers, some of which are monumental; the ones in the rooms facing the Grand Canal are particularly grand. The first piano nobile has an area of about 500 square metres and is provided with heating and air-conditioning, fire and burglar alarms, a system allowing variable arrangement of the lighting (Targetti model) and supports for hanging pictures or other kinds of works. All the rooms in the exhibition area have local control systems: temperature, air quality and humidity, complying with all the standards defined by the International Council of Museums.
